What are the system requirement for the new BARXdirect Equities platform?

The BARXdirect Equities systems requirements are:

Minimum browser versions:
Chrome v37 (and greater)
Firefox v16 (and greater)
Internet Explorer v9 (and greater)
Safari for Mac v6 (and greater)

Screen Resolution:
1280x800

Minimum O.S. versions:
MS Windows 7 and 8
Apple OSX 10.8 and 10.9.2

Minimum hardware:
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel core i5 (or equivalent)
Memory 4 GB DDR3
Harddisk 500 Mb free

Alterative platforms:
Internet Explorer 9 and greater (Suggest IE10)
Firefox 25 and greater
Safari 6 (for Mac) and greater

Please note that IE8 is no longer supported by BARXdirect Equities.

What are the charges for BARX?

Charges for BARXdirect Equities are based on your qualification count - calculated over the previous 3 months.

Less than 15 deals in the previous 3 months:
£29 per month (Level 1 data)
£45 per month (Level 2 data)


15-24 deals in the previous 3 months:
Free access (Level 1 data)
£16 per month (Level 2 data)

25 or more deals in the previous 3 months:
Free access (Level 1 data)
Free access (Level 2 data)

Please note that fees for BARXdirect Equities are charged monthly in arrears.

What is the difference between my qualification count and my MarketMaster deal count?

Qualification Count

This refers to BARXdirect Equities and traders placed via the platform on your MarketMaster, SIPP, ISA, and CFD accounts.

If you have access to other accounts that are not registered in your name these accounts will not show on the platform and will not contribute to your qualifying deal count.

Deal Count

Deal Count is essentially the numbers deals done on your nominee* account and any linked accounts owned by you or a 3rd party.

In terms of reduced commission, only the lead nominee account (known as the Parent account) will benefit.

*Nominee accounts are any of the following accounts:

  • Marketmaster
  • Investment ISA
  • SIPP (Self Invested Pension Plan

How do I extend my session timeout in BARXdirect Equities?

Within the platform select ‘Preferences’ which is located on the bottom section of the platform in between ‘Account History’ and ‘Inbox’

Select the My Session Expiry section by clicking the maximise/minimise button at the right hand side of the screen.
Select Extend session timeout and then click on ‘Update’
You will need to read and agree to the following disclaimer to update to extended session timeout:

"By selecting the extended session expiry I accept liability for access to my account. I also agree to provide alternative control over the access to the application."

Please note: Standard session timeout is 20 minutes/ Extended session timeout is 12 hours.

What do the colours represent in the Level 2 window?

Yellow Strip: The yellow strip indicates the best bid and offer prices available from the market makers.
Green: Order coming on to the order book
Red: Order coming off of the order book
Orange: Oder being amended

The different shades of blue represent how close an order is to the current bid or offer price. The darker the shade of blue, the closer the price of that order is to the current bid or offer price.
